KSA Banks confirmed : No VAT on expat remittances Senior bankers clarified on Sunday that money sent home by expatriate workers will not be taxed under the value-added tax (VAT) reform initiative to be launched by the Saudi government on Jan. 1 next year. It was also announced that companies and businesses have only three days left to register and obtain their dedicated VAT account numbers. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Zakat and Income Tax (GAZT) has urged businesses with annual revenues of more than SR1 million ($266,640) to register for VAT before the deadline of Dec. 20, 2017. “The deadlines for companies with annual revenues between SR1 million and SR375,000, however, has been extended by a year until Dec. 20, 2018,” according to a GAZT statement. “All businesses including commercial organizations and banks have been advised to make sure they understand the VAT rules and be ready for their implementation after 15 days from now,” said Syed Ahmed Ziauddin, a senior ban...

2018 : Cinemas will be Open in KSA

Saudi Arabia to allow cinemas to reopen from early 2018 Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture and Information has announced that commercial cinemas will be allowed to operate in the Kingdom as of early 2018. The announcement marks the first time in 35 years that cinema theaters will be allowed to operate in the country. Meanwhile, the Board of the General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM), which is chaired by the Minister of Culture and Information Awwad Alawwad, passed a resolution on Monday allowing the authority to grant licenses to cinemas. In a released statement, Alawwad said: “As the industry regulator, the General Commission for Audiovisual Media has started the process for licensing cinemas in the Kingdom. We expect the first cinemas to open in March 2018.” The announcement comes as part of the Vision 2030 social and economic reform program in the Kingdom and follows the announcement that women in the Kingdom will be allowed to drive come June 2018....

Saudi Arabia will start giving household allowances Low and middle-income Saudi households will begin benefitting from a new government allowance scheme, which will be announced on Tuesday. The additional funds are meant to curb the effects and strains of the kingdom's economic reforms on less fortunate families, a source explained, according to media reports. As Riyadh has instituted major economic reforms, increasing fuel prices and reduced subsidies have taken their toll on many Saudi households' disposable income. KSA increased fuel price effective as of midnight Sunday (Dec. 31, 2017). Octane 91 fuel which cost 75 halalas per liter will now be available at SR1.37 per liter and 95 octane which cost 90 halalas per liter will cost SR2.04 per liter. Diesel for industries and utilities will cost SR0.378. The price of diesel for transport remains unchanged at SR0.47. Kerosene price also remains unaffected at SR0.64. The prices include Value Added Tax (VAT). The regulatory authorities are monitoring the markets to ensure that prices are not manipulated and supplies are not interrupted. Anyone who raises prices before the stated date and time will be penalized. Saudi Aramco will also provide its customers with detailed information on mechanism to apply these prices. -- SPA

Judicial magistrate Ali Jawwad Naqvi announced the verdict in a Lahore lower court, ordering the man to serve a six-month jail term and pay a fine of Rs200,000.
